Wallabies Overhaul Backline For All Blacks Test Slipper Set For Record

Wallabies overhaul backline for All Blacks test, Slipper set for record

Australia coach Dave Rennie has rung the changes to his backline for the third Bledisloe Cup test against New Zealand next week in a bid to spark some attacking magic.

The Wallabies will be chasing an elusive first win over the All Blacks since 2015 in Auckland on Saturday, with a new-look side taking the field after consecutive defeats in the opening two tests of the series.

Marika Koroibete, who missed the first two tests because of his father's ill health, starts on the right wing with Tom Wright switching to the left wing in place of Jordan Petaia.

There is a new halves pairing with flyhalf James O'Connor winning just his third test cap while Nic White starts at No.9.

Lalakai Foketi, who missed the second test with a head knock, returns at outside centre with Irae Simone slipping to the bench and Hunter Paisami missing out.

The only other change to the starting side from the team that played in Auckland last weekend is in the front-row with James Slipper replacing Angus Bell at loosehead prop.

Slipper will become Australia's third-most capped player of all time, behind George Gregan (139) and Stephen Moore (129), if he plays off the bench in the Rugby Championship clash with world champions South Africa in Sydney on Sept. 3.

"We have made a number of changes in the backs which will give us a different attacking dynamic," Rennie said in a statement.

"We need to put more pressure on the All Blacks defence and we feel this combination will help us do that."

The All Blacks have retained the same starting side from their 36-13 victory in the second test in Auckland.

The third Bledisloe Cup test is also the opening match of the Rugby Championship.
