Chicago Residents Wake Up to Storm Damage After Monday Night's Tornadoes
Significant Damage Reported in Elwood, Channahon
Overnight storms brought tornadoes and severe weather to the Chicago area, leaving behind a trail of damage. The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed at least five tornadoes touched down in the region, including an EF-1 tornado on the city's Near West Side.
Chicago Airport Hit by Tornado
One of the most significant tornadoes was reported near O'Hare International Airport around 10 pm Monday. The tornado briefly forced airport staff to seek shelter. By Tuesday morning, the storm had moved away from the area, but damage was still being assessed.
Wide-Ranging Damage
Significant tornado damage was reported in Elwood and Channahon, Illinois, located about 35 to 40 miles south of Chicago. Residents in those areas are dealing with downed trees, damaged homes, and other infrastructure issues.
Cleanup and Recovery Begin
As the sun rises on Tuesday, Chicago residents are beginning the cleanup and recovery process. Emergency crews are working to clear debris and restore power to affected areas. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow safety guidelines as they clean up and repair their property.
