Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines Recover as Storm Heads to Jamaica

WEB - Hurricane Beryl, the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season, has intensified to an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.

The storm made landfall on Carriacou Island in Grenada on Monday evening as a Category 4, bringing devastating winds and flooding to the island nation. Several homes and businesses have been damaged, and at least one person has been reported dead.

Hurricane Beryl is expected to continue moving west-northwest towards Jamaica, where it is forecast to make landfall late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. The storm is expected to weaken to a Category 3 hurricane before making landfall in Jamaica, but it is still expected to bring heavy rains and possible flooding to the island.

Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines, which were all impacted by Hurricane Beryl, are currently assessing the damage and beginning recovery efforts.
