Beryl Ethel Hovious was an ordinary girl from Mooresville, Indiana. She was the daughter of Stephen Hovious, a local farmer, and his wife, Mary. Beryl's life took a dramatic turn when she met John Dillinger, one of America's most notorious gangsters.

When a Man Goes to Prison

John Dillinger was sentenced to prison in 1924 for robbing a bank. While in prison, he met and fell in love with Beryl Hovious. The two married on April 12, 1924.

Dillinger's Return

After serving nine years in prison, Dillinger was released in 1933. He returned to Mooresville and reunited with Beryl. Despite Dillinger's attempts to settle down, he soon returned to his life of crime.
